Coffee output in Brazil likely to drop by 21%

BRAZILIA (Commodity Online): Coffee output is expected to drop in Brazil this year, the biggest grower and exporter of coffee.
Inclement weather and a lower yielding crop cycle are touted to be the reason with Colombia’s biggest coffee producing Antioquia province also facing similar troubles.
Brazil had presented a record yield in 2010; however this time, it is likely to drop as much as 21%, crop research firm Safras & Mercado was reported by Calgary Herald as saying. This means 43 million to 47 million bags of coffee would be harvested in place of 54.6 million bags, said Bloomberg.
Inclement weather is the reason for lack luster output in both cases with plants not flowering and humidity aiding the growth of fungus detrimental to yields.
