Colombia's Fedecafe Sees 2011 Coffee Output At 9M To 9.5M Bags

Colombia's coffee production for 2011 is expected to reach 9 million to 9.5 million 60-kilogram bags, Luis Genaro Munoz, the president of the country's coffee federation, said Thursday.

Munoz told reporters that production for the first half of the year will be "very positive." Colombia produced 8.9 million bags in 2010, a 14% increase from the previous year but short of the 9 million-bag output target. Coffee exports, meanwhile, were almost flat at 7.82 million bags.

Consecutive low harvests out of Colombia have helped drive up prices on the InterContinental Exchange in New York. Colombia expects to recover its production this cycle, despite unusually frequent rainfall and humidity-induced fungus diseases.
