Ecuador exported 223,841 60-kilogram bags of coffee in January and February, up 42% from 158,022 bags exported in the same period last year, the National Coffee Council, or Cofenac, said Tuesday.
Coffee-bean exports in the first two months of 2011 jumped to 92,762 bags, up from 43,463 bags a year ago, Cofenac said.
Ecuador exported 131,079 bags of soluble coffee in the first two months, up 14% from 114,559 bags in the year-earlier period.
Revenue from exports in the first two months reached $34.13 million, up 59% from $21.44 million a year earlier.
Coffee exports in February reached 121,784 60-kilogram bags, up 37% from 88,603 bags in the year-ago month.
According to Cofenac, February revenue from coffee exports totaled $11.07 million, down 7% from $11.88 million in February 2010.
In February, 46,058 bags of coffee were sold to Colombia; 24,726 bags to Germany; 17,750 bags to Russia; 13,022 bags to Poland and the remaining to other countries.
Ecuador produces coffee mainly in Manabi, El Oro and Los Rios provinces in the coastal region, Sucumbios and Napo in the Amazon region and Loja and Zamora in the mountain region.
